R U sure about the text ban, boss?

-

PEP Guardiola has revealed exactly why he introduced a wifi and mobile phone ban for his City players.

The Blues boss stopped his players using phones, or any other devices, in certain parts of the CFA training ground earlier this season.

And he says the players AGREE with his hard line on texting and social media in certain areas – including the physio rooms and dressing room - after he explained his reasons.

“There are places I don’t like it,” explained Guardiola. “I know my generation is completely different to my kids’ generation – the mobile and computer is part of their lives.

“Before, we read books and now it’s the computer, but there are some areas where players can spend all day with their mobiles.

“There are some areas, like the massage room, with the physios for example, where they work, and I don’t like that the physio is working and the player is texting.

“The day is long – we have three or four hours together in the morning so there are 10 or 12 hours more to answer the messages..”

Guardiola brought in the out of respect for the staff, but also to encourage players to communicate with each other more, and build team spirit.

So what was the response of his players?

“They agree,” he said. “Out of respect for your staff, who are working with you, caring for you, they live for you, so you have to respect them for 20 or 25 minutes. Of course they have to use it, as social media is so important for the players, for the club, for everybody.”
