Young winger Marshall tames Wolves

- By TOM BRAMWELL

WaRRington Wigan 16 38 YOUNG winger Liam Marshall scored four tries as Wigan continued their unbeaten start to the season, leaving Grand Final runners-up Warrington bottom of the Betfred Super League table and without a win after four matches.

Marshall – who spent last season with Swinton Lions and impressed in the Championship – made his debut on the right wing against Leigh last week, but was switched to the left side to face the Wolves as a result of an injury to Joe Burgess.

The Warriors’ left-edge attack has proved potent in the early stages of the new season and it took just six minutes for Marshall to open his account, pouncing on George Williams’ short kick to the corner.

The England stand-off was again hugely impressive and had a hand in almost all of his side’s attacking moves, creating the opportunities for Anthony Gelling and Marshall to add to the scoreline before grabbing a try of his own on the half-hour mark.

Ryan Atkins finished a superb flowing move on the stroke of half-time to give Warrington hope, but when Marshall completed his hat-trick 10 minutes into the second period, the game was beyond the home side.

Jack Wells – a 19-year-old forward making his fourth first-team appearance – got himself on the scoresheet on the hour mark, before Marshall added his fourth. That came between tries from Rhys Evans and Tom Lineham for the Wolves, but those scores were little more than consolation.
