THE Amazon Academy is rolling into Manchester to provide advice for SMEs to grow their business online.

A free event, run in association with renowned small business network Enterprise Nation, it will provide expert advice and day-today support for more than 70,000 of Britain’s small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

Manchester is home to 7,000 businesses exporting more than £80m worth of goods with the help of Amazon.

Two of those businesses, as well as two authors who have sold their books through Kindle Direct Publishing, will be on hand in Manchester to offer advice to aspiring entrepreneurs and creatives.

One of those is Amer Khan, of Love2Sleep. Amer left his job as a sales rep to start his own business in 2009.

Since then, Love2Sleep has grown to become a multi-millionpound company selling bedding from their base in Manchester to customers all over the world.

He said: “Since starting to work with Amazon, our business has done nothing but grow.

“We’ve been able to move from rented premises to owning our own buildings and we’re currently in the process of developing a new £5.5m centre for our operations.”

However, the boss says it’s not as simple as letting Amazon do all the work as businesses must be set up to make the most of the opportunity.

Another company which has benefitted from Amazon services is RDX Sports, which sell £10m worth of sports equipment and accessories every year with the help of Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA). The brand counts UFC hero Randy Couture and local boxer Amir Khan as ambassadors. Founder Ray Qudos is sure to inspire other business leaders at the Amazon Manchester Academy with his account of how he made a success of RDX Sport. He said: “FBA has given all of our team members a better work-life balance. “It has helped us become more organised and focused. We are also able to follow Amazon’s lead of being incredibly customer-centric within the workplace. “Even stock that we fulfil ourselves has to be backed by the same level of customer care as the stock sent out from Amazon’s Fulfilment Centres.”
