Oldham and Swinton ready for cup draw

- By TOM BRAMWELL

OLDHAM and Swinton have progressed to the fifth round of the Challenge Cup and could be drawn against Super League opposition when the ties are picked out by former Wigan winger Jason Robinson tomorrow morning, but Rochdale are out after defeat to York City Knights.

Roughyeds saw off the spirited challenge of amateur side Haydock.

The visitors - the first amateur club to reach this stage of the competition in more than a century - scored the first two tries.

But, Scott Naylor’s side settled soon after and Oldham’s experience began to show, especially after the introduction of hooker Sammy Gee.

Fullback Richard Lepori grabbed a brace as the home side took a 20-8 lead into the half-time break on their way to a 40-12 victory.

Swinton showed no ill-effects from last week’s trip to Toulouse as they dispatched League One London Skolars at Heywood Road.

Braces from Shaun Robinson and Grant Gore helped the Lions to a 40-8 win, despite the absence of fullback Jack Murphy.

Head coach John Duffy said: “Skolars were very well organised and made it hard for us to break them down in the first half.”

Rochdale went down 26-20 at York after being blown away by the Knights’ strong start.

The home side raced into a 14-0 lead and although Hornets fought back to 20-20, York finished the stronger and sealed their place in the fifth round draw.
