Quigg backing pal for glory

- By SHELDAN KEAY

THERE will be a familiar face missing for Anthony Crolla’s rematch with Jorge Linares this weekend after Scott Quigg admitted he was gutted to not be there supporting his good friend.

Crolla will try to gain revenge when he faces Linares for the WBA, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine lightweight titles at the Manchester Arena on Saturday.

A packed crowd is expected, but Quigg is unable to attend after recently moving to California to train with Freddie Roach at the Wildcard Gym.

Crolla and Quigg previously formed a successful double act competing at the Arena together, and Quigg is wishing the best to his former stablemate.

“I’m devastated I’m not going to be there as I think the world of Anthony and we’ve trained together for years,” Quigg told M.E.N. Sport.

“I’ve been in his corner for all of his big fights so I’m really going to miss being there, but I’ll definitely be tuning in.

“It does upset me that I can’t be there as I think the world of Anthony and I really think he can pull it off.

“It will be another tough ask against Linares but I’ve been speaking to people who are telling me that Anthony’s training has gone brilliantly.

“Joe Gallagher was right when he said that Anthony had to lock himself away as now they’ve left no stone unturned.

“It would be unreal if he can pull it off and I think he’s given himself the best chance of getting the win.”
