Dad’s fury at foul message by cold-caller

A cOLd-cALLER left an abusive voicemail on a customer’s phone when an office joke went badly wrong.

Builder Julian Knowles was ‘disgusted’ when he picked up his messages to hear the BT call centre worker calling him a series of foul words.

The unknown salesman, who had been ringing Julian to sell him into a new contract, thought he had hung up following the missed call – but he was being recorded.

He started joking with his colleague about what offensive things he would say if Julian had picked up. Little did he know he’d accidentally recorded the profane rant in a voicemail message.

BT has apologised to Julian, adding the caller was working for an agency on behalf of the phone company – and has now left.

In the voicemail, the employee said: “Oh god, I know you’re not pressing (answering the phone), you’d just be, like, you stupid f ****** c*** Julian Knowles.

“See what I mean. Just like that, you f ****** dirty s***.” Julian, a 53-year-old dad-ofthree who lives in Warrington and works across Manchester and cheshire, was left shocked when he heard the rude message, which was laden with expletives. He said: “I wasn’t happy about somebody calling me these names. “It’s not very nice. “It’s not good from a big company like BT. “The same day my daughter phoned up BT to complain. “I’m disgusted by it. I wouldn’t talk to anybody like that in my line of work, and I’m surprised they did.

“It’s a strange call to receive from a complete stranger.”

A BT spokesman pointed out the cold-caller was working for an agency on behalf of the company and not directly by the telecoms firm.

However, the company confirmed they have now been sacked.

He said: “We apologise to Mr Knowles for the totally unacceptable call he received.

“The salesperson has now left the agency where he was employed.

“BT doesn’t tolerate this kind of behaviour, either from its employees or third party agencies working on its behalf.”
