Charity calls on businesses to help tackle homelessness
A CHARITY is inviting businesses to a homelessness summit to tell people how they can help those on the streets.
The Mancunian Way charity is hosting the event for invited business people at a city centre hotel next month. Nick Buckley, the organisation’s chief executive, is calling on businesses large and small who are interested in helping tackle homelessness in Manchester to attend. Recent figures show that 78 people were sleeping rough on the streets of Manchester last year – an increase on 70 rough sleepers in 2015.
The charity, which also runs projects supporting youngsters and vulnerable people, works to offer support to the homeless through its Change4Good project by focusing on other long-term issues including accommodation, healthcare needs or substance abuse. Nick said: “This event is not about getting money for us, it is about informing people about what they can do to help.
“Everyone is confused about the topic, and a lot of people don’t want to speak about it.”
Businesses interested in taking part in the event, at noon on April 6, should email nick.buckley@ mancunianway.org.uk.
The M.E.N. has pledged to support and publicise the Manchester Homelessness Charter at appropriate opportunities. If you are affected by issues surrounding homelessness in any way, or if you want to do something to help, you can go to: streetsupport.net
