POLICE investigating the death of a dancer who left her Manchester home to start a new life in Australia have made an arrest.

Stacey Tierney, 29, from Withington, moved to Australia three years ago and was found dead in a strip club in Melbourne a few days before Christmas.

It has been reported that officers have now arrested and questioned a 33-year-old man on suspicion of perjury. He is believed to have been bailed, pending being charged on summons.

Stacey’s body was found at Dreams Gentlemen’s Club, in Melbourne, on December 19 but it has yet to be revealed how she died.

When contacted at the time, the club declined to make any comment. But it has since also been reported that police in Melbourne are investigating whether there was drug use at the club the night of Stacey’s death and whether more could have been done to save her life.

In the wake of Stacey’s death her family set up a Gofundme page in a bid to raise the necessary money to have her body repatriated. It raised £12,000, beating the initial target of £10,000. On it the family said: “Stacey was living her life to the full in Australia and she has made a huge impact on everyone who knew her. “At the moment her family are still in shock and are trying to get their heads around what has happened. “This page is being set up in honour of Stacey. “On behalf of her mum Michelle and her sisters Stephanie, Kristie, and KellyAnne and the rest of her family we would like to thank everyone for their kind messages of condolence.” Among the people to donate was Michelle Davies who said: “Such a beautiful girl. So sad, taken far too soon.” Stacey, a trained fitness instructor, first lived in the city of Brisbane and then Melbourne after moving out to Australia. She had previously studied dance at Oldham College and had worked as a fitness instructor at Nitro Boxing Fitness Centre and Manchester Aquatics Centre, taking zumba and spinning classes. At the time of her death her family paid tribute to her by saying: “Stacey was, and will always be, the most amazing, special, caring person you could ever meet and this loss has devastated our family.” Family tribute
