Kelechi vows to stay at Blues and fight for place
KELECHI Iheanacho has told Pep Guardiola that he will stay and fight for his place at City.
The Nigerian international has been pushed to the periphery of Guardiola’s squad – starting just five Premier League games this season.
He hasn’t started any game since Burnley on January 2 – and his chances of first team football will further diminish when Gabriel Jesus recovers from a fractured metatarsal.
But Iheanacho is adamant he will won’t walk away from City after signing a five-year deal last August.
The 20-year-old said: “I’m very happy and very grateful to be in this team.
“I keep working hard every day and when I get my chance I have to prove to everyone I need to be in the squad.
“It’s a great squad with great players.
“I keep learning and improving, and that will help me in the future. I love it here.”
With uncertainty over Sergio Aguero’s future, Guardiola could move for another striker this summer.
He is a confirmed admirer of Alexis Sanchez – with City monitoring the Chilean’s contract stand-off with Arsenal.
City’s interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dates back to last summer, while Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe is another potential target.
