A MANCHESTER businessman is hoping to continue his positive start to 2017, as the latest SME Growth Tracker predicts growing business confidence for the year.

North west-based RDX Sports has a turnover in excess of £16m, selling products on Amazon Marketplace.

Owner Ray Qudos said: “2017 has started really well for RDX Sports.

“We feel that confidence among local SMEs is continuing to grow and this, coupled with the everexpanding opportunities offered by selling products online, means 2017 could be a record year for us.

“E-commerce has helped RDX Sports grow and will continue to do so in the next 12 months.

“It’s helped us sell to customers around the world, increase our product range and hire more staff.

“It’s the reach of Amazon Marketplace that gives us the ability to export our products from Manchester to customers around the world and this has fueled our growth.”

The SME Growth Tracker is a report by Capital Economics and Enterprise Nation.

The tracker assesses growth prospects and views on the broader UK economy from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Research is based on a YouGov survey of over 1,000 UK SMEs and was announced at the Amazon Academy in Manchester, attended by hundreds of small business leaders.

Across the north west, the SME Growth Tracker found that businesses are expecting conditions to improve in the next 12 months.

They see revenue as increasing 2.4 per cent in the next 12 months, headcount to grow and profits to rise. Emma Jones, founder of Enterprise Nation, added: “The SME community powers Britain’s economy and continues to show resilience in the face of uncertain times, but the Government must take heed of increasing concerns about the negative impact of rising supply costs on small business. “This year in particular, they are facing increasing responsibility for a number of issues including auto enrolment for pensions. “We want to make sure the Government understands the important role they play in the British economy and listens with conviction to their opportunities and challenges.”
