Roughyeds snatch Bulls win

- RUGBY LEAGUE By TOM BRAMWELL

OLDHAM produced a superb home performance to put an end to Bradford Bulls’ run of four wins in five matches and secure a muchneeded two points in the Kingstone Press Championship.

Roughyeds crossed through Adam Neal early on, before a quickfire double for the Bulls and a converted try just before half-time put the away side in a commanding position.

However, Danny Langtree cut Bradford’s half-time lead to just two points by scoring right on the hooter and Scott Naylor’s side rallied late to steal the win with a Kieran Gill try.

Swinton took the lead against Halifax through a Chris Hankinson penalty inside the first five minutes, but it was the only time the Lions had their noses in front on a tough day at the Shay.

Richard Marshall’s Fax side have their sights firmly set on a spot in the top four and demonstrated that potential throughout on their way to a 38-28 victory.

Ben White scored Swinton’s first try to cut the Halifax lead to 10-6 and Mike Butt hit back after another Fax try to make the score 16-12 after 30 minutes, but a converted Elliot Morris try and a James Saltonstall penalty made it 24-12 at the break. The home side also got the first score of the second period, meaning tries from Chris Atkin, Hankinson and another for Butt were all in vain, leaving John Duffy’s Lions still seeking their second win of the season.

There was no repeat of Rochdale’s heroics against Toulouse this time round, with the French side running out 52-14 winners at the Crown Oil Arena.

The result brought some measure of revenge for Olympique, who went unbeaten throughout 2016, until Hornets arrived in the promotion final and recorded an unlikely win.
