Man seriously injured in attack at nightclub
A MAN is in hospital with serious injuries after an attack at a nightclub.
Police say the man was assaulted either inside or just outside The Bijou Club on Chapel Street, Salford, in the early hours of yesterday.
But club bosses deny the attack happened inside the venue and say CCTV footage confirms this.
Police and ambulance services were called to Chapel Street at around 4am following reports of an attack.
There they found a 31-year-old man suffering from a serious head wound.
The victim was taken to hospital, where he was in a serious but stable condition.
Chapel Street was closed in both directions while enquiries were made.
Police originally reported the attack had involved an axe, but later said they were now ‘uncertain what weapon was used, if at all, and who may have attacked the victim.’
In a statement released shortly after the incident, Det Chief Insp Elizabeth Hopkinson said: “This was a particularly nasty assault, during which this victim sustained serious head injuries which at first were thought to be life-threatening.
“Fortunately that is no longer the case, but that should take nothing away from the severity of this attack.
“We believe this attack took place inside the nightclub, and that means that there will surely be witnesses who may be able to assist us with our investigation.
“I would like anyone who may have been in the nightclub at the time, or believes they may have seen something to come forward and help us bring this attacker to justice.”
