More to come says Wigan boss

-

COACH Shaun Wane was delighted with Wigan’s 16-10 win at Wakefield, but was disappointed with the performance of his side.

A late try from in-form rookie winger Liam Marshall secured victory for Warriors, who were never behind.

Wane decided against resting his captain Sean O’Loughlin, who opened the scoring when he powered his way over for a sixth-minute try. Full-back Morgan Escare added another while Wigan were down to 12 men with centre Anthony Gelling in the sin-bin for a dangerous tackle, but they could never pull clear of their tenacious hosts until Marshall collected a deflected pass from George Williams to score his ninth try in just seven Super League appearances.

“We had 50 per cent completion in the first half and there is no way you can a win game like that but we fixed it up in the second half,” Wane added.

Elsewhere, a late Chris Atkin onepointer gave Swinton their second win of the season at the expense of Rochdale at Heywood Road, but the result will be marred by what appeared to be a serious injury to Lions’ full-back Jack Murphy, who was stretchered from the pitch in the second half.

Tries from Mike Butt, Connor Dwyer, and Andy Bracek for the home side and Lewis Galbraith, a Rob Massam double and Samir Tahraoui for Hornets had left the scores level at 22-22.

Oldham were edged out away to Halifax, having fought back from 14-0 down. Adam Clay looked to have scored a winning try for Roughyeds in the dying stages, but was deemed to have a foot in touch and Fax held onto a 16-14 win.
