Young: We expected to beat Chelsea!

- By STUART MATHIESON

UNITED’S devastating performance against Chelsea stunned many...but not Ashley Young.

The Reds had been labouring in the Premier League at Old Trafford in recent weeks, dropping points against Bournemouth, West Brom and Everton.

But Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera’s goals carved out what was arguably United’s best display of the season under Mourinho.

“I don’t think a lot of people saw that scoreline coming or the type of game to be honest,” said stand-in captain Young.

“But we did. We have belief in ourselves. I have confidence in every single player in the squad. I don’t think a lot of people expected it, but we did. We have felt that kind of performance coming.

“I’m not too sure what kind of a message it sends out. We are just concentrating on ourselves and get as many points as we can.

“There have been high standards here since I signed for the club and we want to be pushing on.

“A lot has been said about how we want to finish fourth but I am that kind of person who wants to achieve more than that. I want to finish higher than that.”

The Reds host Anderlecht in the Europa League second leg on Thursday at Old Trafford and Young says United have to prove there is another Chelsea display in their locker. He said: “If we can play like we did against Chelsea than I am sure we can get through against Anderlecht.”
