VINNY SET FOR SEMI SHOWDOWN

CITY SKIPPER SET TO GET THE NOD FOR WEMBLEY SEMI-FINAL

- By STUART BRENNAN

VINCENT Kompany is being lined up to play in City’s FA Cup semi-final crunch with Arsenal.

And if the skipper can prove he is fit, it will be a significant milestone in his battle against a succession of injuries, as it would be only the second time in over a year he has started successive matches.

Kompany again proved his worth to the Blues at the weekend, with a man-of-the-match display at Southampton which was capped by scoring the opening goal.

And boss Pep Guardiola has since hinted Kompany could be the man to shore up a City team which twice leaked equalisers against the Gunners in the 2-2 league draw a fortnight ago.

“Hopefully he can be fit, we are going to see,“said Guardiola. “We are going to see how they played against us two weeks ago, what he can do, to make something new and to suppress him a little bit and, of course, to achieve the final.”

Arsenal’s second equaliser at the Emirates was a setpiece header from Shkodran Mustafi – which is very much Kompany’s department.

And the first goal also saw the kind of back four uncertainty and disorganisation which the Belgian’s leadership tends to limit.

Guardiola also hinted that he is leaning towards bringing Willy Caballero back in as goalkeeper at Wembley, having stressed that he will be picking between him and Claudio Bravo on a weekly basis.
