Corrie Shona’s secret is out
THE secret is out – Shona Ramsey is the mother of Kylie Platt’s killer Clayton Hibbs on Coronation Street. And actress Julia Goulding says it’s been hard to keep it quiet, especially as viewers have been speculating who her character could be.
Julia, from Middleton, has been playing mysterious cafe worker Shona for five months now, and it’s been clear to the viewers at home that she was hiding something.
And it turned out to be a secret so dark, it’s no wonder she’s been desperate to keep it quiet, especially as fans have wondered if Shona and Kylie’s widower David could find love together.
She said: “At the moment we don’t know (if Shona will get together with David) but imagine how complicated that relationship would be?
“It’s been so hard to keep the secret and I’ve not told anyone.”
Shona gave birth to killer Clayton when she was 13. He is now 18 and she is 32.
As rumours swirled about her identity, Julia was amused to hear that viewers thought she was Kylie’s mum, when in fact they are a similar age. It’s been revealed she actually does know Kylie’s killer and he’s her son Clayton, played by Droylsden actor Callum Harrison.
And to make matters even more complicated for Shona, she is an abused ex-girlfriend of sinister Nathan Curtis – but has no idea he is the older man grooming David’s teenage niece Bethany Platt.
She escaped from Nathan’s clutches when, like Bethany, he tried to ensnare her into a lurid plan to share her with his friends.
Julia says being in Corrie, her first TV role, is her ‘dream job’ especially after she grew up watching the soap and toured the old set as a child while visiting the Granada Studios Tour.
“After graduating from drama school five years ago I’ve mainly done Shakespeare and TV voiceovers,” Julia said.
“Everyone has made me feel so welcome and everyone has brought me into the fold. “It felt comforting and familiar.” Forced to tell Gail who she really is, Shona’s secret now threatens to blow the fragile Platt family apart once more after Kylie was stabbed to death by Clayton on the famous cobbles last summer.
