Noone at airport has listened to complaints

-

I WROTE to Viewpoints some nine months ago regarding the poor service at Manchester Airport upon arriving.

Now whilst I do not expect them to respond to every customer complaint I do expect that some consideration be given to my grievances, however it seems that customer complaints mean nothing to this management.

I arrived home from Lanzarote on Tuesday to find first of all the electronic moving walkways were (again) not working and then went to the toilets at passport control to find that there was no toilet tissue in one cubicle and the dispenser in the other cubicle was broken.

I then had to join the huge queue for passport control during which some directions were being given in a language that was at very best pigeon English and at worst a dialect of some foreign language. After which we had to wait more than 40 minutes for our case to arrive.

I would like to suggest to these people who oversee this shambles that instead of sitting in the office pontificating how good it’s going to be in the future, that they get it right for today, and send a mystery shopper through this arrival mess.

I would like to also suggest that should I have been a business person coming to bring new industry to Manchester this experience would have made me think twice about setting up here.

All in all Manchester does not welcome visitors, it ignores them. Edward Dyson, Droylsden

Plan is unfair to cyclists

MOST readers will be unaware of the government’s little known plan to remove the right to compensation for most road accident injuries.

The government is intending to take a blanket approach to all road users in a bid to combat the ‘whiplash’ fraud and as a consequence has given little consideration to the impact on other road users – such as cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians.

The new reforms propose to increase the small claims limit from £1,000 to £5,000. By imposing stricter limits, this will mean the most vulnerable road users will lose access to justice.

If passed all injuries, including broken bones, worth less than £5,000 for any road users will go through the small claims court and therefore claimants will not be able to recover any of their legal costs even if their claim is successful.

A new tariff system is also being imposed for all soft-tissue injuries with compensation levels set at just under half of the current level.

As a keen cyclist myself, I’m calling on support from the local cycling community to act now before it’s too late.

The purpose of the proposed legislation is to crack down on perceived whiplash culture. Whilst we do not believe that there is whiplash culture in this country, we think that it is wrong to target cyclists who are not part of the perceived problem.

It’s unfair cyclists are being caught up in this reform so let’s take a stance now.

Shame on councillors

IN the M.E.N.’s recent reports about the problems with Spice in the city centre,a lovely picture of how Piccadilly Gardens used to look was featured.

This makes me so sad. Manchester city councillors should hang their heads in shame for letting the gardens become the eyesore they are now.

They are a disgrace to Manchester. Jaycee, New Moston

Beckham is quiet on ad

I WAS somewhat surprised to see David Beckham appearing in a television advert promoting whiskey. I was not surprised to see that he had a none-speaking role. Ian Walsh, Bury
