KILLER Rob Donovan is back on Coronation Street after escaping from prison, immediately becoming a new suspect in the Ken Barlow whodunnit riddle. Last night Rob, played by Marc Baylis, emerged from the shadows and it’s evident this wasn’t the first time his ex Tracy Barlow had been meeting him.
The florist has been secretly hiding her ex following an incident which allowed him to escape, and she has been reunited with the prisoner-on-the-run in the latest chapter of their twisted love story.
Rob was the man heard breathing in the alleyway in scenes ahead of Tracy’s stepfather Ken being pushed down the stairs, and this now puts him in the frame for the shocking attack last month.
Could history, after Rob saw the late Tina McIntyre fall from the builder’s yard roof before attacking her with a metal bar, have repeated itself?
“Hypothetically, if Ken was to see Rob, I’m sure he’d be like ‘excuse me what are you doing here?’” he laughed.
Rob was arrested in 2014 after being shopped by his sister Carla Connor – and after going on the run on the day of his wedding his bride Tracy handed him over to the police.
We saw him in prison a year later when he sent a visiting order to Tracy and was attempting to blackmail factory boss Johnny Connor.
Marc is delighted to be back in Weatherfield and at the centre of another whodunnit after the mystery of who killed Tina.
“It’s awesome to be back, I love playing Rob,” he said. “I don’t want to go round in circles with Rob, I always want it to be on the front foot and this is exactly what this storyline is, so that’s why I’m here. What will develop from this storyline is that he’s a very different person from the last time we saw him. A lot has occurred over the past 18 months and yet he was very angry, very bitter about the fact that the two women that he loved most in his life – one being his sibling the other being the love of his life – were responsible for him being sentenced to prison for what he did.
“He’s a very different man. There’s a lot more tenderness to the Rob that we saw before and there will be a lot unearthed about his and Tracy’s relationship.”
