UNITED legend Gary Neville blamed Virgin after a ticket mix-up made him miss his train.

The former Reds star vented his frustration on Twitter after trying to catch yesterday’s 9.20am service from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly.

He was turned away at the gate because part of his ticket was missing.

The TV pundit said he collected his tickets from a machine at the station and what he had in his hand was all he was given.

Neville asked the train manager if he could buy another ticket, but said he was refused and told to go to the main desk, despite the member of staff apparently having a ticket machine on him.

He tweeted: “You are a joke @Virgin Trains!!”

Neville added: “You’ve got a train manager called Simon who apparently can’t sell tickets at the gate? Now I’ve missed the train!!” He also posted a photo of the tickets adding: “@VirginTrains that’s what the machine gave me (apparently one missing) he wouldn’t sell me another.” “That’s what the machine gave me. Simon said can’t let you on. I said I will buy another now then! No go to the office. He had a machine!!” Virgin Trains bosses replied to the tweets, asking for more details so staff could look into what had happened. They weren’t the only ones to reply. Twitter user ‘Sportshub265’ said: “He was a City fan Gary. He is on Facebook now telling all his mates how he kicked you off the train.” ‘Kev’ posted: “Charged me twice for a ticket last week and took a lot longer to return the money than they did taking it!” Neville is understood to have hopped on a train back to Manchester 20 minutes after the incident. A spokesman for Virgin Trains said: “We always love to see football legends on our trains. But regardless of how many trophies they’ve won, all our customers need a valid ticket for travel and should leave plenty of time to board their train.”
