Fleet of Rolls-Royces in funeral procession attended by hundreds

-

A HUGE funeral procession involving around a thousand people and a fleet of Rolls-Royces halted traffic.

A coffin was carried in a carriage pulled by four horses, which was followed by a fleet of around 17 silver luxury cars through Sale and Altrincham, in Trafford.

Police helped manage traffic in the area and alerted local businesses as hundreds of people attended.

A plane carrying a banner reading ‘We love you Mandy’ was also seen flying above the crematorium.

The procession began at a church in Sale, before it travelled to Sinderland Road Crematorium in Altrincham and ended at an Indian restaurant for the wake on Monday afternoon.

An image shared online shows dozens of the Rolls-Royces parked outside New Dilli, on The Downs in Altrincham, where the wake was taking place.

However, residents in the area complained of long delays and traffic problems while the procession made its way to the different venues.

The Rolls Royces were reportedly seen on Hope Road, Sale, while other homeowners said they were blocked in their driveways.

One resident wrote on Facebook: “I live a couple of doors down from the church and it has been utter hell. Our house was completely barricaded both yesterday and today.”

Another driver said: “I don’t think they knew the way and were doing U-turns at light junctions, mostly white transits.”

There were also some reports of trouble at pubs in Altrincham on Sunday and Monday.

The Unicorn pub, on Ashley Road, called GMP on Monday evening to assist with help closing due to an issue with ‘children running around’.

Local police patrols said they would help if necessary, but no officers attended the venue, adding that there were ‘no significant issues’.

The Navigation Hotel, on Manchester Road, also reported problems to GMP on Sunday evening and closed at 9pm due to parents refusing to remove their children.

The Mersey Farm pub in Sale shut temporarily on Monday afternoon following the advice from police.
