Denny: I’ll give England 100pc

- By MICHAEL HALE

FORMER Samoan rugby league international Denny Solomona insists he is ready to give his all for England.

The Sale Sharks wing was selected as one of 15 uncapped players in Eddie Jones’ squad for a two-game tour of Argentina in the summer.

In his previous sport, Solomona opted to play for his birth country, saying ‘his heart wasn’t for England’, but he made himself eligible for his adopted home last month.

Solomona claims he is ready to give 100 percent for England and sees no reason why he wouldn’t be as motivated as one of his UK-born colleagues.

He said: “People are quite happy but obviously there’s a handful who are not. That’s understandable. That’s part of the game.

“I’m willing to give my all for England. Eddie [Jones] says about wanting people who will give 100pc for England, that’s what I’m willing to do. Why shouldn’t I give my all for England? I’m eligible too.

“Obviously, I feel strongly [about England] because I’ve made myself available. There’s no doubt that I would give 100pc, there’s no doubt I would go that extra mile for England.

“I’m proud that I’m Samoan but I’ve got an opportunity to play for England and that’s what I’m going to do.”

Physically, the demands of Solomona going on an international summer tour having also come under question after playing a full rugby league season before switching to Sale.

“You don’t think about your body in an international call-up,” he said. “It’s sore and tired but you only get one opportunity. If you don’t grasp it now then it’s gone forever.”
