THE DERBY: REACTION Jose: Aguero made most of headbutt

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

JOSE Mourinho suggested Sergio Aguero exaggerated Marouane Fellaini’s headbutt which saw him sent off during the derby.

United held on for the next six minutes - plus an additional six minutes of added time - to earn a point at the Etihad.

But when Mourinho was asked about Fellaini’s rash reaction, he said: “I don’t know, because I didn’t watch.

“I have just three details: Marouane says that it’s a red card because it’s Marouane, Martin Atkinson told me that in his opinion it’s a red card.

“But I saw Aguero in the tunnel and no broken nose, no broken head, his face is nice as always, so I’m not so sure. I think if Sergio doesn’t go to the floor, for sure it’s not a red card, but if Marouane gave him the chance to do that I don’t know.

“What I know is we played 15 minutes with 10 and the boys were absolutely amazing in the way they fought for the point, because the focus was on the distance between us and City.

“But we go a little bit deeper and we also focus on the distance, but we did go a little bit deeper and we also focused on the distance between us and this point can be an important point.

“So we were in this game to try and win like we did in the firsthalf, but we knew that if the game was going in a different direction a point would be an important point.”

Mourinho was also unhappy at the lack of protection Marcus Rashford received.

The Reds striker suffered a number of robust challenges that went unpunished in both halves and could be seen shouting at the fourth official after Vincent Kompany upended him off the ball.

Gabriel Jesus was booked for fouling the United teenager late on, but Mourinho suggested Atkinson did not protect his striker.

“We had two good chances to score,” Mourinho said. “Marcus gave lots of problems to their defenders, they stopped him sometimes with lots of fouls, so for me the spirit was amazing and the first half was really good.

“In the second they were stronger than us and in spite we coped very well defensively.”

Meanwhile, Timothy FosuMensah suffered a dislocated shoulder during the dying moments of the match after landing awkwardly.
