A WOMAN has described how two men stalked her through city centre streets in a 4X4 shouting lewd sexual remarks at her and warned others to take care.

The victim was walking down Newton Street, in the Northern Quarter, on Wednesday lunchtime, when she was approached by the men driving a grey Audi.

They wound down the window and said she should get in the car, then started making grotesque sexual remarks towards her.

She initially ignored the men, then asked them to leave her alone, but they followed her down a number of streets, continuing to harass her.

At one point, the driver even went the wrong way down a one-way street in order to follow her.

Eventually, she managed to hide in a side street and the men lost her, and drove off.

The victim, who was left terrified and shaken by the ordeal, told the M.E.N.: “I was trying not to cry. Even though it was the middle of the day I was terrified. What could have happened if it was night time?

“I want to raise awareness to young girls like myself because this happened to me in broad daylight and I dread to think what could happen if it was dark or they targeted a drunken girl.”

The driver was a tall, heavily built black man, in his 30s. The passenger was described as black and skinny.

A GMP spokesman said: “We were called just after 3pm to reports a woman was walking along Newton Street as a man in an Audi drove slowly behind her. He shouted things at her of a sexual nature. He later drove off.”
