DO you know an amazing teacher or member of support staff who inspires children at your school every day?

Nominating that special person in the Greater Manchester Schools Awards could be the perfect way to show your appreciation.

The awards, now in their fourth year, are FREE to enter and open to all primary, secondary and independent schools across the region’s 10 boroughs. And this week we are focussing on the categories which celebrate teachers or staff members who really go the extra mile to make their school a better place.

The School Support Staff of the Year is for any member of non-teaching school staff, who has played a vital role in the running of the school and the happiness and security of the children. It may be a teaching assistant, administrative staff, care taker, careers advisor or any other member of support or administrative staff who make a real difference to individual children, classes or the whole school.

Last year, Mrs Irons, of Castleton Primary School, scooped the award for her work helping children who live in challenging circumstances.

The Head Teacher of the Year award recognises an outstanding school leader, whose guidance and leadership has helped create a dynamic learning environment, where the pupils are happy and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Rachel Wall, of St Patrick’s RC High School in Eccles, took home the prize last year for not leading an excellent school in a deprived area, but for the bravery she showed her pupils after her diagnosis of Young Onset Parkinson’s.

The Inspirational Teacher of the Year is for a teacher in a nursery, first, primary, middle, high or secondary school that goes the extra mile to give children the best opportunities in their education.

This award is for a teacher in any key stage school that inspire their students to learn and encourage them to pursue their goals, giving them skills and the enthusiasm they needs to make a positive impact on their life.

Louise Lee, of Audenshaw Primary School, took home the award in 2016 after moving judges with her commitment to her class when one of her students sadly died.
