Pogba is set to win battle to be fit for Europa clash with Celta

-

PAUL Pogba will return to the United squad for their Europa League semi-final first leg at Celta Vigo next week.

The midfielder missed the derby after coming off with a muscular injury in United’s win over Burnley last week, and is set to sit out tomorrow’s Premier League visit of Swansea.

However, Jose Mourinho expects the 24-year-old to overcome his injury to be available for next week’s European tie in Spain.

“For Celta,” Mourinho said when asked when Pogba would return.

The Frenchman had previously missed just two games this season through injury - the win at Middlesbrough and the draw with West Brom either side of the spring international fortnight.

Mourinho has limited options in midfield with Marouane Fellaini about to begin a three-match suspension for headbutting Sergio Aguero, and Timothy Fosu-Mensah sidelined with an ‘important injury’ after dislocating his shoulder at the end of the derby.

Reserves midfielder Matty Willock, 20, was promoted to the first-team bench against West Brom earlier this month and could earn a recall against Swansea.

“We have Herrera and Carrick and nothing else,” Mourinho stressed.

“And Tim Fosu-Mensah, like today, an emergency to help the team, strong legs, energy, he’s another one that we will miss.

“So we are in trouble but we will fight, that’s for sure.”

Other reserve players in contention for a possible promotion include Devonte Redmond, Matthew Olosunde, Regan Poole and Demetri Mitchell.
