NORTHERN QUARTER COCKTAIL VENUE TO BE ‘DEN OF DEBAUCHERY AND INDULGENCE’

A NEW hidden cocktail bar is opening in the Northern Quarter this month, promising ‘a den of debauchery and indulgence’ to discover inside.

Behind Closed Doors will take over the basement space below 91 to 95 Oldham Street, underneath vintage clothes shop Retro Rehab, T-shirt printers T-Shirt Express and body piercing and tattoo parlour Studio 95.

Work is already underway on the space, which photos reveal will be kitted out with button-back banquette seating and chandeliers.

“So after a long time in the pipeline, we’re proud to announce that Behind Closed Doors is coming to Manchester’s Northern Quarter very soon,” a post on its Facebook page reveals.

“Hidden behind a closed door (get it?!!) and down a narrow stairway (causing more issues than needed!) will be a den of debauchery and indulgence.

“This sleek, sexy and downright sleazy throwback bar will have to be visited to be truly appreciated.

“Concentrating on a vibrant and eclectic cocktail range, supported by the usual suspects of a fine spirits collection and plenty of craft beers, we aim to provide an experience worth writing home about.”

A range of desserts will also be launched after the opening, which is scheduled for sometime this month.

Drinkers can get their first glimpse inside the venue next Thursday, May 11, when it will host Manchester Gin’s first anniversary party.

Taking over the space from 6pm, the gin-fuelled shindig will be open only to those who know the secret passcode to get in (follow @MCR_Gin on Twitter for clues), and there’ll be a freebie for the first 50 people through the doors.

There will also be a gin trail launching on Monday in the run-up to the event, when the brand’s social media followers will be given clues to follow leading them to a limited edition bottle of Manchester Gin.

Made using dandelion and burdock root foraged in Chorlton, the spirit was launched by couple Jennie Wiggins and Seb Heeley last year and is now stocked in more than 250 venues around the country.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better first year,” said Jennie.

“The response has been incredible, we have loved every second of it and are so proud of what we have achieved already, not only launching Manchester Gin but now having the Raspberry edition to add to the portfolio too.

“The birthday activity is just to celebrate the people that have made it such a success and to get more people to enjoy our gin.”
