Shaw won’t figure again this season

JOSE Mourinho has ruled United leftback Luke Shaw out for the remainder of the season.

He seemed to suffer an ankle injury just five minutes into the draw with Swansea on Sunday and was replaced by Antonio Valencia.

Shaw has endured a chastening campaign under Mourinho, who has repeatedly rebuked the 21-year-old in public over his focus, commitment and ambition, as well as questioning his training performances.

Now United face a quandary with the injury-plagued Shaw, whose contract technically expires next year, after another setback.

“Bailly is ready to play, he’s this kind of personality that fights against every problem unless it’s impossible,” Mourinho stressed. “He’s ready to play. “Luke Shaw is injured and it is an important injury, obviously, but we are still waiting for one more opinion from the medical department to decide what to do but it doesn’t matter what, he’s out for the season. That’s confirmed.”

Mourinho suggested United’s Europa League semi-final first leg opponents Celta Vigo had a slight advantage due to their ‘comfortable’ position of 11th in La Liga. “Celta, for some reason is here, it’s as simple as that,” Mourinho said.

“To win a competition with many teams, with a very good balance – almost every team in the knockout phase were teams of the same level, and they managed to be in the semifinal. It says everything.

“Because of their situation in La Liga, a comfortable situation, they manage also to just think about the Europa League, to rest players, to be in the maximum of their condition, so a difficult match for us.”
