US BURGER giant Five Guys is opening a second Manchester city centre restaurant following the launch of its Arndale branch in March.

The diner chain, which already had sites at the intu Trafford Centre and in Ashton-under-Lyne, is set to open another as part of the University Green development taking shape on Oxford Road.

It will occupy a 3,175 square foot ground floor space, which will seat more than 88 diners inside. The brand is known for its trademark double patties and for allowing diners to customise their burgers with as many toppings as they like, included in the price.

Five Guys will be joined in the development by a bar and restaurant from the Loungers Group, which operates a string of sites around Greater Manchester, including Expo Lounge in Didsbury, Bevano Lounge in Urmston, Brezo Lounge in Cheadle and Molino Lounge in Oldham.

It also owns The Cosy Club, inside Manchester’s Corn Exchange.

The 120-cover restaurant will be decorated in the group’s signature style with eclectic furnishings, vintage light fittings and statement artwork, and will serve an all-day menu spanning breakfast and brunch, sandwiches and burgers, tapas dishes and comfort food classics such as beef chilli and mac and cheese.

A Co-op food shop is also among the latest wave of names to be confirmed for the £50m development, joining previously announced food and drink operators including indie coffee shop Takk and coffee shop chain Pret A Manger.

James Tootle, retail surveyor at developer Bruntwood, said: “We are so pleased to secure such well known, popular brands at University Green. These new additions reflect our desire to provide an exciting retail and leisure line-up, and we have no doubt they will be well received by the diverse population we have on Oxford Road.”

All the sites are due to open in summer 2018.
