RED HOT MARCUS IS GOING TO GET BETTER

- By STUART MATHIESON

ON-FIRE Marcus Rashford will get even hotter for two reasons, says United teammate Jesse Lingard.

The 19-year-old striker’s stunning free-kick winner in the Estadio Balaidos against Celta Vigo has put Jose Mourinho’s men in the Europa League box seat ahead of next Thursday’s semi-final second leg.

Rashford’s crucial strike in the 1-0 win followed his extratime winner against Anderlecht in the quarter-final.

The teenager is back in form and Lingard insists he can cope with the hype – and that he will only get better as he improves his already impressive physique and learns more about the game.

“He can handle the pressure,” said Lingard. “He’s been about long enough now to handle the pressure.

“He’s scored major goals for United and again he’s got the important goal.

“He’s still growing. He’s going to fill out even more. His knowledge of the game, his game intelligence will continue to grow and he’ll keep learning and go from there.

“Of late, he’s been put on set-pieces and his corner delivery and free-kicks have been excellent.”

Last Sunday, Rashford was in the spotlight when he was at the centre of a penalty controversy against Swansea City. He was accused of ‘deceiving’ the referee to win United’s spot-kick in the 1-1 draw by Swans boss Paul Clement.

But Lingard doesn’t believe Rashford will have been affected by it.
