CORONATION Street star Sally Dynevor is calling for runners to join her in supporting a cancer charity.

The 53-year-old, who has herself lived through breast cancer, will take part in the Great Manchester Run for Stockport-based Beechwood Cancer Care.

The TV star, best known for her role as Sally Metcalfe in the long-running soap, first became aware of Beechwood and its services through her friend and fellow actress, Morag Siller.

Morag was also a patron of the charity, but sadly lost her own battle with breast cancer in April 2016, at the age of just 46.

Sally has attended many Beechwood events after beating cancer, including the Ladies Lunch, Butterfly Ball and switched on the Tree Of Lights last Christmas.

Her namesake character in Corrie has also had an emotional breast cancer storyline.

Sally, from Middleton, will don her running shoes for the cause on May 28 and is urging others to do the same. She said: “I am so touched by what Beechwood does for people – from individuals to families.

“So I am delighted to represent them by taking part in the Great Manchester Run.

“I still need to fit in a lot more training but I am really looking forward to the day – and hope lots of people can join me in support of this fabulous charity.”

This year there is an option to run a half marathon route or the usual 10km – limited spaces are still available in both categories.

Beechwood asks that you aim to raise a minimum of £120 for the charity to run in its name.

Fundraising manager Angela Gray, said: “We are so excited for this year’s Great Manchester Run and we are delighted that Sally will be running for us. Thank you to everyone who has joined Team Beechwood so far and we look forward to more people signing up.”
