Pep tight-lipped over Kelechi future

PEP Guardiola is not prepared to give any assurances about Kelechi Iheanacho’s future.

The Nigerian has slipped down the pecking order after a bright start under his new boss. He hasn’t started a league game since January 2 – before Gabriel Jesus arrived at the club – and looks set to end this campaign with fewer starts than he managed under Manuel Pellegrini.

Guardiola has plenty of decisions to make this summer, and indicated that he has made up his mind on every player that is out of contract at the end of the season.

But if he has made up his mind on whether he wants Iheanacho to remain part of his squad next season, he isn’t sharing the information publicly.

Asked if he had a future at the club, Guardiola replied: “Kelechi is a young player who is clever in the box, he is strong, fast and has a sense of goal.

“He is not playing more or less because of my decision. Like I said before, at the end of the season we will talk about Kelechi and individual players.”

Iheanacho seemed to indicate recently that he is willing to stay at City if he is wanted.

CHELSEA are the new Premier League champions after beating West Brom at the Hawthorns last night.

Substitute Michy Batshuayi netted after 82 minutes to clinch a 1-0 win for the Londoners and take the title.
