THE son of a woman who died after collapsing during a holiday in Spain has shared a heartbreaking message about her final days.

Mandy Farrell, 48, from Radcliffe, was taken into intensive care in Benidorm after she fell ill while drinking coffee in a bar on Saturday, April 29.

Her husband Paul, 47, and their children Kieran, 26, and Olivia, 19, have been at her bedside for two weeks.

They believed she was showing small signs of improvement, but in an emotional message posted on Facebook over the weekend, Kieran said she had passed away. He wrote: “Well yesterday we got the news that we really didn’t want to hear, she fought hard for 13 days and I got to have a chat with her every single day. I got to look into her eyes and that’s something I didn’t expect to ever do again. “Thank you to each person that prayed and sent messages of support because that’s what kept her going for that amount of time. “My mum even surprised doctors at how much she held on, how much she showed us she wanted to remain with her family. On Thursday I was by her side with my dad and she stared into my eyes for about 10 seconds and I believe that was my mum saying goodbye.

“To get that was just amazing, as heartbroken as I am, I’m going to make my mum proud, I’m going to be strong for the amazing family and people I have around me.

“I know there are going to be a lot of heartbroken people but she wouldn’t want that, she lived her life to the full, she had an amazing husband who I have the pleasure to call my dad and a beautiful little girl that she really would do absolutely anything for, and not to mention the rest of my family that have been stronger than ever.

“We love you mum just like I’ve told you millions of times over the last few weeks.”

Mandy, who worked for her husband’s stonemasonry business and as a barmaid for FC United, was escorted back to her hotel room after collapsing on April 29, but paramedics were called because she started being sick. She was rushed into intensive care.

Husband Paul told the M.E.N. how the mother-of-two had fallen seriously ill with an aneurysm to the left side of her brain.

A memorial event for Mandy is being held on Friday evening, May 19, on Redbank Playing Fields in Radcliffe, near the family’s home.
