Team-mates keen leaving party comes with a victory

CITY’S players are determined to make sure their big send-off to Pablo Zabaleta does not fall flat.

Tonight’s game with West Brom at the Etihad Stadium is a big one for the Blues, who still need four points from two games to be sure of Champions League qualification.

Manager Pep Guardiola is also aware anything but a win will put a dampener on stalwart Zabaleta’s final appearance at the ground.

But the manager feels the emotion of the moment will work in City’s favour, as no one wants to send the popular Zabaleta off on the back of a poor result.

Fans are expected to make their own tribute to Zabaleta tonight, but Guardiola was adamant the emotion of the occasion will not be a hindrance to the Blues.

Asked if it could be a distraction, Guardiola said: “No, I am not worried about it. That is going to help us more.”

And he went on to express how difficult it will be to replace the Argentina international.

“I have a lot of respect,” said Guardiola. “Nine years here. To replace that you need someone who has been here for nine years. That is a long time, not easy.

“That is why he deserves all the fans to come. Support us more than ever, especially in the moments we are in trouble.

“They have to come to support us more than ever. He is one of the most important players in the history of Man City.”
