Carjacker in attack on woman

-

A CARJACKER battered a woman after luring her on to a quiet street.

The attacker deliberately shunted her vehicle with his Volvo and then beckoned her to stop, apparently to exchange details.

But the 35-year-old victim was then jumped by the man, who was holding a machete and wearing a balaclava. He punched and kicked her before getting in her car with an accomplice and speeding off.

She had been driving her white Mitsubishi Lancer on Bradshawgate, at the junction of King Street in Leigh, when the man drove into the back of her car. The man, who was behind the wheel of a dark grey Volvo estate, pulled alongside the victim and signalled for her to follow him.

He then drove down King Street and on to St Helens Road. The woman thought he was driving to a safe place to swap details, but when she stopped on Etherstone Street, the man punched and kicked her to the ground, before taking her car keys and driving off with another man from the Volvo.

They drove along St Helens Road in her car, before crashing it a short time later on Newton Road in Lowton.

The men were then seen running on to Moss Industrial Estate near St Helens Road.

Detectives investigating the incident have since discovered the Volvo had been reported stolen on Monday, May 8, from the Wigan area.
