Smiling hero saves life of woman lying in busy road
A GOOD samaritan has been heaped with praise after he helped prevent a severely distressed woman from trying to take her own life.
Free-runner Adam Marr, 24, was out practising his skills in Ancoats when she spotted the woman lying across the road in the path of oncoming traffic.
He immediately ran to her aid and helped move on to the pavement where he spent around 20 minutes talking to her and calming her down before the emergency services arrived.
Samantha Caine, who also stopped to help after spotting the pair as she drove along Old Mill Street, launched an appeal to find the ‘kind-hearted stranger’ on social media. And he has received widespread praise after a picture of smiling Adam, one of the region’s leading free-runners, went viral online.
Samantha told the M.E.N. that it was Adam’s amazing kindness that had stopped the woman trying to take her own life.
Adam said: “She was in a bad way, very upset and confused. It was just a natural reaction to stop and help her.
“I was just trying to keep her calm and remain positive. “I was saying things like just think how people would feel if she did die. How the driver and everyone who saw it would feel. How all her friends and family would feel. She also said she worked in a role where she helped others and I said just imagine how they’d feel.
“By the end we began to get a smile out of her. Before I left she hugged me and said thank you.”
Adam and Samantha stayed with the woman for around 30 minutes until paramedics and police officers arrived on the scene. The woman was then taken to hospital by GMP.
Adam said: “I obviously never expected to be all over Facebook or anything like that. All the messages and comments I’ve had have been lovely, but I was just doing the right thing.”
Samantha, from Failsworth, said: “The whole thing was incredibly dramatic but I have never known anyone be so smiley and positive. He was a saint. It just goes to show some heroes don’t wear capes, they ride bikes.”
