600 homes built to help tackle housing crisis... and more on way
A MANCHESTER housing assocation has completed the building of more than 600 new homes across the north west – with plans for a further 1,200 in the next four years.
Bosses at Great Places Housing Group, based in Withington, are celebrating after completing the £82m project to address the housing crisis.
It comes as new Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham promised to end homelessness in the city.
Senior managers at Great Places hope government funding worth £36.6m which will help the group and its partners deliver a further 1,279 new affordable homes across the north west in the next four years
The completion of its latest project was partly financed with grants worth £11.9m from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the government’s housing and land agency.
Helen Spencer, of Great Places Housing Group, said: “The region desperately needs new homes and we are thrilled to have exceeded our development targets in the last financial year.
“We aim to provide quality affordable homes that cater for what people need and at the same time help create successful, vibrant communities. They were made available for rent, shared ownership and sale.
“We are already busy working with our partners to build the next round of homes which are much-needed in the region.”
