United players were left in ‘complete shock’ following the sickening attack as they prepared for tonight’s Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm.

Players and staff held a minute’s silence at their open training session yesterday morning at Carrington, where security was beefed up in the wake of the attack.

Journalist­s’ cars were checked before they entered the premises - a measure which was introduced at Old Trafford earlier this season.

M.E.N. Sport understand­s the attack left a number of United players shaken. Most squad members have attended concerts at the Arena and representa­tives from the Manchester United Foundation were in attendance with children for the Ariana Grande show. United said in a statement on cancelling Mourinho’s press conference due to be held last night: “Due to the tragic events in Manchester on Monday night and the effect it has had on everyone here at the club, and within our city, the club has decided to cancel this evening’s pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa League final in Stockholm, Sweden. “We are sure that, in the circumstan­ces, you will all understand our position on this matter. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families at this terribly difficult time.”
