JOSE Mourinho will make a maximum of FOUR summer signings.

The United manager will go for quality over quantity as he bids to re-establish the Reds as title contenders and a Champions League superpower.

It will mean no more than a quartet of incomers - with three the most likely number of recruits.

Mourinho submitted his wishlist of targets to executive vice chairman Ed Woodward two months ago.

And following United’s Europa League final success over Ajax, he will leave the task of bringing them in to the Old Trafford chief.

Mourinho bought four players to begin his Old Trafford revolution last July with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly signing.

The previous summer window saw Louis van Gaal install six new players after kicking off his reign in 2014 by bringing in half a dozen imports. But United are anticipating a more measured approach this summer, with chiefs aware last year’s record-breaking TV deal has given other Premier League clubs increased spending power.

Despite other English clubs’ improved financial clout, the Reds are confident their traditional lure – allied to their return to the Champions League next season following the win in Stockholm – puts them in a strong position.

They are favourites to land France star Antoine Griezmann, who has indicated he is ready to leave Atletico Madrid.

The Reds could also move for goalkeeper Jan Oblak Griezmann’s team-mate - if David de Gea leaves for Real Madrid.

Mourinho has also been linked with a number of other players, including defensive midfielders Nemanja Matic (Chelsea), Tiemoue Bakayoko (Monaco) and Eric Dier (Tottenham), Torino striker Andrea Belotti and Chelsea midfielder Willian.
