Series of memorials to remember the victims

HOST OF SPECIAL SERVICES AND EVENTS BEGIN THIS WEEKEND TO HONOUR THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES

THOSE who died in the terrorist attack will be remembered this weekend in a series of memorial events planned across Greater Manchester.

Public displays of solidarity for those who perished and those who were injured by the bomb show no sign of slowing down over the Bank Holiday weekend.

A vigil for Martyn Hett, who was one of 22 people killed in the Arena bombing, will be held in Heaton Moor Park in Stockport from 7pm9pm on Sunday, May 28.

The 29-year-old victim’s family and friends will be attending the memorial.

A special church service will also be held for victim John Atkinson, 26, at St Mary’s Parish Church at Close Park from 2pm - 5pm on Sunday.

The service will be open to all faiths. The council have also opened up a book of condolence which is available to sign at Bury town hall.

Here are some of the vigils and memorials taking place across Greater Manchester in the coming days:

Wythenshaw­e Stands Together for Manchester

Where: The Venue Heart,

£5 donation on the door to victims’ families.

Starts: 7.30pm. at Sacred

Vigil for the Manchester Arena victims

Where: St Wilfrid’s Church, Northenden. Starts: 12-12.30pm.

Vigil for Manchester Arena victim Martyn Hett

Where: Heaton Moor Park in Stockport.

Starts: 7pm-9pm.

Memorial church service for victim John Atkinson

Where: St Mary’s Parish Church, Radcliffe.

Starts: 2pm - 5pm. Bikers ride out Motorcycli­sts will ride from the Rising Sun pub in Hazel Grove to St Peter’s Square in Stockport to lay flowers for the victims.

Entrance fee is a donation to victims of Manchester Arena attack.

Where: Ericston Park, Timpson Road. Starts: 2pm kick-off. Manchester Marathon Match A full 24 hours of football starring Paul Scholes and Anthong Crolla. Where: Curzon Ashton FC, Ashton Starts: 7pm. All proceeds to M.E.N.’s appeal.
