Station to stay shut due to damage

-

VICTORIA station is set to remain shut due to ‘structural damage’ caused during the terrorist attack.

Station operators Northern Rail say the investigations are still being conducted by police at Victoria following Monday’s attack. They say the station will remain closed until GMP have concluded their work at the scene.

A spokesman for Northern said it could not give any date when it would likely re-open, but it is likely to be days rather than weeks. In a statement, Northern said following the attack in the area close to Manchester Arena and the station, there had been structural damage which needs to be repaired.

Train and Metrolink services are not currently stopping in the station. Passengers are being advised to check before travelling.

The statement read: “Manchester Victoria Station, which links directly to the arena, is still part of an ongoing police investigation. Due to the nature of the attack, the station has suffered structural damage that still needs to be properly assessed and repaired.”
