Pop star Harry’s phone call to lift spirits of victim

HE RINGS TEENAGE FAN RECOVERING IN HOSPITAL

-

A TEENAGER seriously injured in the Manchester terror attack received a phone call from her hero, pop star Harry Styles... telling her he loved her.

Freya Lewis has been in intensive care at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital since the blast.

The 14-year-old suffered multiple fractures, lacerations and burns after being hit by flying shrapnel from the explosion.

She had been at the concert with her best friend Nell Jones, also 14, who was killed at the scene.

The pair had been walking to meet Freya’s dad, Nick, after the show when the suicide bomber struck.

Freya was given CPR at the scene before being rushed to hospital.

She spent 10-and-a-half hours in surgery and has since undergone two further operations, with more planned over the coming weeks.

Her family say she faces a long road to recovery and set up a blog via her school – Holmes Chapel Comprehensive and Sixth Form, in Cheshire – to keep people updated on her progress.

In a post yesterday, they said Freya was now awake and had received a call from former One Direction star Harry, wishing her well.

Her sister, Georgia, had previously used social media to say her sister was the singer’s ‘biggest fan’ and asked people to share it in the hope he would see it.

The appeal worked and the family were stunned when her dad took a call from Harry, who grew up only a few miles from their home.

The blog post said: “The phone rang and it was Harry Styles. Freya woke up, Harry said he loved her, she said she loved him, then Dad said he loved him!

“The PICU unit at Manchester Children’s Hospital has just been given a lift like you can not imagine!

“Harry, we salute you, sir. Holmes Chapel is very proud of you!”

Georgia added on Facebook: “Cannot believe it, Mr Harry Styles just rang my Dad.

“Hearing his voice has been a great lift and Freya has totally woken up and is completely in shock that he rang.

“They told each other that she loved him!!! Thank you everyone for everything!!! I love you all !!!! Xxx, everyone is jumping for joy in the PICU unit xx, I’m so happy, I have no words.” It comes as the family of Nell Jones - who was Freya’s classmate - have paid tribute to their daughter saying their ‘hearts have been shattered’ after the loss of Nell, who was their ‘world.’ In a statement, the family bravely added that “we can’t wrap our children in cotton wool” and thanked the ‘phenomenal’ response from Nell’s school, police and local community. They said: “Our Nell was just lovely. She was top class, she was clever and she was fun. She would have a go at anything and loved life. “She had her dad and her brothers wrapped around her little finger. She loved shopping and she loved to spend money. She loved clothes, shoes and make-up.” They added: “Even though she has been taken from us, we’ve had 14 lovely years with her and that makes us so happy. “They were the best years. We were so lucky to have her. “Our hearts have been shattered. We loved Nell so very much - she was our world.” Georgia Lewis
