Our thanks to you as appeal fund hits £2m

- By PAUL BRITTON

THE M.E.N. appeal to help the families of those killed and injured in the Manchester Arena bombing has now passed £2m.

Our ‘We Stand Together’ crowdfunding appeal was launched in the aftermath of the atrocity, which killed 22 people.

Every penny donated will be directed into the official We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, set up by the British Red Cross and Manchester council.

The overall total now stands at more than £6m.

That staggering figure was confirmed as Ariana Grande announced a star-studded benefit gig at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday.

The £2m mark for the M.E.N. fund was passed yesterday after a £100,000 donation from property giant Peel Holdings.

The landmark figure surpasses all other fundraising campaigns launched by the M.E.N.

JustGiving bosses revealed our appeal doubled the crowdfunding website’s records in terms of visitors to the site at any one time. At its peak, six donations were being processed every second.

We have had support and donations from celebrities around the world, including pop star Ed Sheeran.

He recorded a heartfelt video tribute urging people to dig deep and joined the likes of Eminem and Justin Timberlake in backing the cause.

Businesses including Morrisons, Next, Boohoo, Rentalcars. com, Priceline Group, National Express and Heineken have all pledged huge sums, alongside the Manchester Airports Group.

A new charity has been set up to distribute funds to all those affected.
