Ambulance staff to talk about attack
AN emotional debrief is to be held for the 300 ambulance staff who worked on the night of the Arena attack.
The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) is hoping to get the paramedics, call-handlers and office staff who were on duty on the night of the bombing together in the same room, so they can thank them for their incredible efforts.
Bosses also want to get staff together to discuss their experiences of the terror attack.
Derek Cartwright, the chief executive of the NWAS, is now appealing for a business or organisation in Manchester to provide a venue big enough to host the debrief.
He said: “We want to get everyone together – we had about 300 people working on the night – and thank them for what they did.
“We also want everybody to share their experiences with each other. But we need a room big enough to hold everybody, so if any businesses or organisations in Manchester could provide a venue we would love to hear from them.”
Last week Mr Cartwright told how, at the height of the operation, 60 ambulances from across the north west were called to the Arena.
He said: “We did our absolute best. Tragically 22 people died, but I’m sure if it wasn’t for our efforts more people would have died. I’m always proud of our staff, but this takes pride to another level. It was very humbling to see how people got on with it.”
If you have a venue big enough to host the debrief contact damon. wilkinson@ menmedia.co.uk and we will pass on your details to NWAS.
