Police release bomber’s brother without charge
THE brother of the Manchester Arena suicide bomber has been released from custody without charge.
Ismail Abedi, 23, was detained outside the Morrisons supermarket in Chorlton the day after his brother Salman Abedi detonated his deadly device at the arena.
The arrest came as police raided a block of flats on Carlton Road in Whalley Range - reportedly Ismail’s marital home.
In a simultaneous strike, police raided Salman’s home on Elsmore Road in Fallowfield.
Salman’s younger brother Hashem Abedi, 20, was arrested in Tripoli on the same day, May 23.
Their father Ramadan was arrested just hours later, also in Tripoli. Ismail has been held by officers since then in connection with the investigation into the terror attack.
Yesterday, he was released from custody without charge.
A total of 18 people have been arrested in connection with the investigation. Of those, eight people have been released without charge.
A total of 10 men remain in custody for questioning.
A GMP spokesman said: “A 23-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with the investigation into the attack at Manchester Arena has today, Monday 5 June 2017, been released without charge.
“He was arrested on 23/05/2017 in Chorlton, Manchester.”
