THE mum of Martyn Hett has had a tattoo of a Manchester bee and the slogan #BeMoreMartyn, which went viral after his tragic death in the Arena bomb attack.

The popular PR manager, 29, was a frequent and adept user of social media with a big online following.

In the days after his death, family and friends spoke of how the ‘fun, eccentric, diva’ had ‘squeezed more into his 29 years than many people would in a lifetime.’

The hashtag #BeMoreMartyn, urging people to live life to the full, began trending on Twitter, Facebook and other sites in the days afterwards.

At a vigil for him in his hometown of Stockport, attended by hundreds of people last month, his mum Martyn Hett, his mum Figen and the tattoo she has had done in his honour Figen Murray revealed she was going to get a tattoo of the motto.

And Martyn’s brother Dan Hett has posted a picture of the finished design, with the hashtag underneath a worker bee.

Thousands of people have had bees, the symbol of Manchester, tattooed on them after the atrocity in a show of solidarity and to raise money for the emergency fund.

Speaking at the vigil in Heaton Moor Park last month, Figen said: “I don’t really know what a hashtag thing is, because like many parents I’m a computer dinosaur. But the hashtag #BeMoreMartyn, that’s going to be my motto from now on.

“In fact, I hate tattoos, but I’m going to have that engraved somewhere on my body.”

Coronation Street superfan Martyn himself had a tattoo of legendary character Derdrie Barlow, played by Anne Kirkbride, and appeared on Channel 4’s Tattoo Fixers to have it upgraded.

His vigil was also attended by Corrie stars Shobna Gulati and Jenny McAlpine.

Figen added: “He touched so many lives in so many ways. Giving them strength and inspiration.

“So many strangers have contacted me to tell me that following Martyn on social media has helped them to come out or embrace life more. I got a letter from someone saying he helped her friend beat anorexia.

“I know what happened was far too soon and abruptly ended Martyn’s life. But those who knew him know he squeezed absolutely single second out of each moment.

“Nobody can take him out of lives.”
