We’d love a bee mural too

-

I LOVED the bee mural by Qubek (‘Bee mural gets whole city buzzing,’ M.E.N., June 5). It is beautiful and so apt.

We’ve been looking for a street artist to paint something on our 40ft container at Hattersley Community Garden and the bees would be fantastic. The community garden is a huge area that was abandoned over 10 years ago, became derelict, vandalised and subject to fly tipping, drink and drugs parties.

We’re a group of volunteers that have taken on the task of transforming the site into a multiuse area with something for all ages including children’s play areas, growing spaces, pond and woodland area with educational talks... with lots more to come!

Unfortunately we had a break-in a few weeks ago with our orchard being stripped of all the fruit trees as well as a lot of the plants from our herb and sensory garden being taken but that has made us all the more determined. As ex-Mancunians, nothing much fazes us whilst a lot of local people have stepped in with donations of plants and other materials.

Now we just want our container painting so this is an appeal to any street artist (including Qubek if he is free) to come along and paint some bees on our cabin. We exMancunians (always and forever!) want to show our solidarity with the victims of that awful tragedy in a very positive and lasting way.

Anyone interested, please email me on hmv.babs@sky.com and I’ll get back to you. We can feed you and pay for materials but not much else except to say a big thank you. And don’t forget to have a look at our Facebook site (Hattersley Community Garden). Babs Allen, chair
