WHEN City played Monaco in the Champions League there was more than one player who caught the eye.

But when Bernardo Silva skinned David Silva, it was hard to ignore the 22-year-old midfielder.

So there was no surprise that Pep Guardiola made the decision to bring the Portuguese international to the Etihad.

Silva Jnr has been brought in as a long-term replacement for the magician currently running City’s midfield - and the Spaniard is pleased with his apprentice.

Silva said: “He’s a good player and will help us a lot. He impressed me when we played Monaco. Like me, he’s left-footed and he likes to roam around the pitch.

“When you sign players who are young and hungry, that’s good for the side.”

And Silva admitted that he regularly keeps an eye on the world’s top talent.

When asked if the players had spoken about Bernardo Silva after the Champions League, he replied: “Yeah, man. I always try to keep an eye on other matches, other leagues. When someone catches your eye, you keep following them. He had a great season.”

On a personal level, Silva had a great season and was named City’s player of the season after a series of brilliant performances controlling the Blues’ midfield.

Guardiola’s changed the system at City since he arrived, but Silva hasn’t felt the need to change his game personally.

He said: “I play the same game. Guardiola has given me tips because he has a certain way of playing. But I have my style and I put it to the service of the team.

“The way I like to play, it really helps when I have more people around me to combine with. It is also good to play with so many fast players. It makes it easier to create things in the final third.”
