Lindelof is to seek out Zlatan for some advice

VICTOR Lindelof admits he has not yet spoken to compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic after signing a four-year deal with United.

The Sweden defender completed his £30.7m transfer from Benfica on Wednesday after passing a medical at the club’s training base at Carrington.

The 22-year-old is Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer and has the option of extending his contract by another year to 2022.

But it seems the Iceman did not need to sound out Ibrahimovic about life at Old Trafford as the Swede continues his rehabilitation at Carrington.

“No, actually I haven’t. I haven’t spoken to him,” he said.

“It’s going to be nice to have him around to speak to him a little bit about the club and everything around it. “It’s going to be good.” Lindelof was pictured arriving at Carrington in a chauffeur driven red Chevrolet – barely 24 hours after Sweden’s 1-1 draw with Norway in Oslo on Tuesday night.

Having only become a regular at Benfica 18 months ago, Lindelof admits life at Old Trafford will be a whole new challenge. “I think so,” he added. “I think for everyone who is joining this club, it changes them.

“But I’m not sure how much really.

“We have a lot of fans in Sweden who support Manchester so we’ll see.

“I’m not sure how, but it’s going to be good.” ANDER Herrera proved himself as one of Jose Mourinho’s ‘smartest’ ever players when he orchestrated Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s crucial goal which clinched the Europa League final against Ajax.

Mourinho originally told Mkhitaryan to stand outside the box at corners to stop counter-attacks, but Herrera switched roles with the Armenian after half-time because he was on a yellow card.

It proved an inspired decision by Herrera after Mkhitaryan fired home United’s second goal at the Friends Arena from a corner.

And, according to student Petter Skogsletten, who was present during Mourinho’s guest lecture at the University of Lisbon last week, the United boss was very impressed.

“Mourinho talked a lot about Herrera, saying he is one of the smartest players he has had during his career,” he said after the lecture.

“Herrera took hold of Mkhitaryan and sent him in front of the keeper, while Herrera would take the pitch outside the box.

“Mourinho said he was so frustrated that he said ‘What the hell is going on?’

“It turned out Herrera had taken responsibility in the situation Mkhitaryan had a yellow card. If Ajax suddenly counter-attacked and Mkhitaryan had fouled the player, he would have been sent off.

“Mourinho said he is incredibly pleased to have such players who can handle situations on their own and adjust.”
