AARON Mooy is set to join Huddersfield Town in a £10m deal.

The City midfielder is close to clinching the move to the Premier League new boys after spending a highly successful year on loan with the Yorkshire club, helping them to promotion through the play-offs.

That has given the Terriers new funds to strengthen their squad, and they made Mooy a priority after a season that saw him named in the PFA Championship team of the year.

The move represents good business for the Blues, who picked up the 25-year-old Australia international on a free transfer from sister club Melbourne City last summer.

Huddersfield will pay £8m up front for the player, with another £2m agreed in add-ons, and City have both buy-back and sell-on clauses inserted in the deal.

Mooy had hoped to be given his chance at the Blues this summer, but after assessing the player’s season at Huddersfield, Pep Guardiola decided he wanted to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcement.

Southampton were also said to be interested in Mooy but Huddersfield have beaten them to the punch and the move is expected to go through in the next couple of days.

Mooy began his professional career with Bolton but failed to make the grade and after a spell with St Mirren in Scotland he returned to his native Australia to start again.

He showed his ability playing for Westyern Sydney and was then snapped up by Melbourne, where he forced his way into the national side.

He moved to City last summer and was immediately loaned out to Huddersfield, for whom he made 51 appearances and scored four goals.
