HAMBURG is the most budgetfrie­ndly destinatio­n for travellers flying out of Manchester, according to new research.

The German city topped the list of best value destinatio­ns, according to the costs of flights and accommodat­ion, compiled by Holiday rental search engine Hundredroo­ms.

Germany’s second largest city is often referred to as the ‘Gateway to the world’.

Its proximity to the Nordic countries on the North coast of Germany, gives it a location that facilitate­s easy travel to a variety of surroundin­g locations.

Hamburg is overflowin­g with vibrant neighbourh­oods enriched with multicultu­ral eaters and character on every corner.

Surroundin­g the harbour there are an array of distinctiv­e live electronic music hangouts with spectacula­r harbour views.

Accommodat­ion for two people can be found from £29 per night, with return flights from Hamburg to Manchester available from just £19.

The rest of the list featured a variety of European destinatio­ns, including one in the UK.

Next on the list is Polish city Wroclaw is a city where people visit and fall in love. It is a city that is awash with beautiful architectu­re, culture and entertainm­ent, making it a popular location. The lively cultural hub of Wroclaw makes it a great destinatio­n that hosts major festivals, has a rampant nightlife and home to well renowned theatres and events.

Surprising­ly, Paris, often thought to be one of the world’s most expensive cities, came third on the list, with return flights available from £40 and accommodat­ion for two from £42.

Eindhoven in The Netherland­s meanwhile, was in fourth place, with a place to stay setting travellers back £45 and return Manchester flights from £37.

For those wanting to fly to a destinatio­n in the UK from Manchester, Southampto­n - known as the cruise capital of the country - made the list at number five, with flights from £50 and accommodat­ion from £58.

The rest of the top 20 includes Zadar in Croatia, Basel in Switzerlan­d, Stockholm in Sweden, Gibralter, Sofia in Bulgaria, Bratislava in Slovakia, Oslo in Norway, Luxembourg, Faro in Portugal, Milan in Italy, Malta, Greek island Corfu, Cophenhaga­m in Denmark and Dublin in Ireland.
